Learn how to draw manga at your pace!
The Osaka School of Arts currently offers a robust Manga program that caters to each student no matter their skill level. Our goal is support you and your artistic goals. Our manga teacher who is a real mangaka and knows the industry will asses your portfolio and place you in 1 of 3 classes. The A program for beginners, B program for intermediate students, and the C program for professional level students.
Guiding you step by step
Our teacher will guide you step by step in your manga journey. With the help of our staff you can become the mangaka you always dreamed of.
The A program is made for beginners, for those who have little to no drawing experience. Our drawing course will teach the basics of drawing shape, light, value, and composition. Once a good foundation is made, the course will teach drawing people and places, basic anatomy and perspective. Then we will move on to teaching line weight and panelling. With the A program we can get you from nothing to the intermediate level.
The B program is for those who have more experience drawing. We will guide our students with the specific techniques that mangaka use to panel, text block, compose splash pages and covers. More advanced techniques in linework, character design and clothing design will be instructed. Our teacher will help foster the mentality of a mangaka in our B program students. Those who complete the B program will have the skills of a professional mangaka.
The C program is for artists who are already at a professional level. Those who could be considered professional have a place at our school as students who are trying to break into the manga industry. The C program allows for one to work on their one shot with the support of our staff. We will provide writing and editing support as well as professional advice from our mangaka on the business of manga. Our staff will work with you to establish connections with manga studios and together submit your one shot. Our hope is that you work will become published and you are taken in as an independent mangaka! If not then maybe work under a bigger mangaka as an assistant until you are ready for your debut. The C program is apex of our school helping our students make meaningful connections and building a professional network.
The cultural visa allows for up to 4 years of study under our program, if done right our students will be able to go from the A program to the C program within that time and establish themselves in the industry.
The Osaka School of Art is dedicated to helping you achieve your goals regardless of your skill level. As you develop your ability in art and establish your life in Japan we will help you step by step to ensure your stay is a successful one.
Japanese Language Learning
We also offer a Japanese learning course in addition to our drawing courses. Once a week you will meet with our Japanese teacher and begin your Japanese speaking journey. As with our other programs our instructor will adjust to your fluency level and help you reach your language goals.
